In this short online course, you'll learn the key industry talking points around WHY film is important to communities. The course content covers the range of reasons why governments around the world have proactively developed film sector capacity, including the benefits of economic development and job creation, tourism benefits, social and reputational impacts and other important factors.
Armed with the knowledge and information from this course, you will be able represent your area / jurisdiction / region as a Film Contact and to speak confidently and authoritatively to a range of stakeholders on the benefits of engagement with the film sector.
This course developed out of research conducted by Locations Africa, a project that was funded by the South African Department of Arts and Culture's Mzansi Golden Economy programme. Locations Africa recognised that Africa is missing out on the opportunities of global film production, and looked at ways to improve cooperation, coordination and skills and standards amongst African film destinations. Future courses include Film Commission professional training, and specialist courses in core business areas such as Marketing and Film Tourism.
